Acutely Food Insecure Population Estimates

Acutely Food Insecure Population Estimates

Annual and outlook peak needs data

Annual peak needs data identifies the highest number of people in a country requiring urgent food assistance during the year, or any 12-month projection period. At least twice a year, FEWS NET analyzes annual peak humanitarian food assistance needs in each of its regularly monitored countries. This data is uploaded under the following source documents in FDW:

  • Annual Peak Food Assistance Needs

  • Annual Peak Food Assistance Needs (FEWS NET/USAID Only)

Peak needs data for the Food Security Outlooks and Food Security Outlook Updates reflect the anticipated peak (the highest number of people in a country requiring urgent food assistance) during the projection period. This data is uploaded under source documents specific to each country. The naming conventions for these source documents are as follows:

  • Food Security Outlook Population in Need Estimates, [country]

  • Food Security Outlook Population in Need Estimates (USAID, FEWS NET only), [country]

  • Food Security Outlook Update Population in Need Estimates, [country]

  • Food Security Outlook Update Population in Need Estimates (USAID, FEWS NET only), [country]

Food Assistance Outlook Brief (FAOB) data

The FAOB template allows multiple data collections to be created from one upload: public and internal population estimates, and public and internal highest household. The associated source documents in FDW for these data collections are as follows:

  • FEWS NET: Food Assistance Outlook Brief

  • FEWS NET: Food Assistance Outlook Brief, FEWS NET/USAID Only

  • FEWS NET: Food Assistance Outlook Brief, Highest FIC

  • FEWS NET: Food Assistance Outlook Brief, Highest FIC, FEWS NET/USAID Only

Preparing internal and public FAOB data in the template will fall under one of the following three scenarios:

  • Public and internal data values are the same:

    • Provide values in the columns for public data and leave the columns for internal data blank. FDW will ascribe the values to both the public and internal source documents.

  • Public and internal data values differ:

    • Provide values in the columns for public and internal data. FDW will separate out the data into the public and internal source documents.

  • Internal data only:

    • Provide values in the columns for internal data, and either:

      • Specify NA values in the columns for public data to include the country as not analyzed in extracts of that month’s public data, or

      • Leave the columns for public data blank if you plan to add public data at a later time. If the values are blank, the country will not be reflected in extracts of that month’s public data.
