The biggest change you’ll notice with the latest release to the FEWS NET Data Explorer (FDE) is that search criteria are no longer retained between sessions, providing a cleaner experience each time you visit FDE. We’re also taking a closer look at effectively searching for data in FDE with our newest how to video. Other updates include streamlined account creation, a refreshed FEWS NET Latest widget, and clearer messaging for geographic units without spatial data in the Spatial domain.

Global Updates

Easy Account Sign Ups

It’s now quicker and easier to create a new FDE account, supporting the continued growth and reach of the platform. We invite you to spread the word amongst your colleagues and send them over to the FDE to sign up

FEWS NET Latest

We’ve repositioned the refreshed FEWS NET Latest widget on the home page for easier access to featured FEWS NET news and reporting.

Removed Retained Search Parameters

Previously, your search filters were retained when moving between domain pages and between FDE sessions. This functionality has been removed to allow you to start each search session with a clean slate, giving you a consistent and predictable search experience.

To learn how you can bookmark and share your searches easily, watch our video on deep links in FDE.

Spatial Domain Updates

Notification for selections without spatial data

We’ve created notifications that let you know when one or more of the geographic units you’ve selected do not contain spatial data. This makes it clear when geographic units cannot be visualized on the map or customized before download.

Recent Bug Fixes

  • Some users periodically encountered an error when trying to sign in to FDE using Google Single Sign-On, including when using multiple Google accounts on one device. Users will now be prompted to select the Google account that should be used to log in to FDE during the sign in flow.

  • Users were not able to open data sets in the FDE, and were instead being directed to the home page. Data sets can now be opened as expected.
