Key Concepts and Architecture
The FEWS NET Data Warehouse online information tool provides a framework for enhanced data management, accessibility, and security for the key data sets routinely used in the FEWS NET project’s food security and early warning analysis. It is designed to manage and allow users to navigate between a collection of modules focused on ingesting, normalizing, and managing data that is viewable from the FEWS NET Data Explorer system.
Data entry and management modules
The following modules are available within the FEWS NET Data Warehouse. They are designed to help system administrators and data scientists ingest and normalize data in a timely and consistent manner. All modules can be accessed via the Warehouse system menu.
Supporting evidence module: Provides access to original PDF documents that contain data ingested into the FEWS NET Data Warehouse and news articles from pre-determined news sources.
Data entry module: Step 1 in the data ingestion process. The Data entry module allows users to enter new data from outside the data warehouse, and prepare it for approval.
Data processing module: Step 2 in the data ingestion process. The Data processing module is focused on data review, approval, and publishing of all data submitted in step 1.
Data analysis module: Provides additional details on all the data included within the FEWS NET Data Warehouse, including data source document links, key dates, data point count, dashboards, and more.
Data Series management module: Allows users to view and manage all data series available in the FEWS NET Data Warehouse system.
Metadata management module: Enables users to create, review and adjust metadata classifications used for analysis and download.
System administration module: Provides administrative controls for assigning permissions and access rights.
