The Data Series Management module provides a collection of navigation and editing features for the management of all data series and data points stored within the FEWS NET Data Warehouse.

The module ties into other modules, such as Data Entry and Metadata Management, to perform the following operations within a single module:

  • Data Series Operations

    • Browse published and unpublished data series by data domain category

    • Chart data series

    • Add new data series

    • Edit existing data series

    • Delete unpublished data series

    • Download data series

    • View data series audit history

  • Data Point Operations

    • Browse data points

    • Add new data points

    • Edit existing data points

    • Delete unpublished data points

    • View data point audit history

Only users with the appropriate administrative rights can perform the operations outlined above. To review data viewing and editing permissions, visit Categorization and Permissions.

Data Series Operations

Browsing Data Series

Data series are organized into categories corresponding to specific data domains, which are reflected in the dropdown menu (e.g., Data Series Management > Price > Exchange Rates).

Once a data series category is selected, the corresponding data series are visible in table format.

The table's column headers, filters, and organization are dynamic based on the data series selected. For example, the first column header for the Acute Food Insecurity Classification data series is titled Geographic Unit versus Reporting Country for Trade data series.

The table view displays Trade flow quantities from the Trade data series. Columns tied to the Trade data series (e.g., Reporting Country, Flow Type and Trade Type) are shown.

Adding New Data Series

To add a new data series:

  1. Click Add from the data series table view. The system will then display the add data series page.

  2. Complete the fields within the add data series page.

  3. Select one of the Save prompts. A confirmation message will appear when complete.

To add a new data series, the necessary metadata must exist within the FEWS NET Data Warehouse system. If the required metadata does not exist, it must be added using the Metadata Management module.

For each data series category, there are unique metadata requirements:
