The following list of updates and bug fixes are included in the latest Sprint 24.05 release to the FEWS NET Data Platform.
New Features
Heat extremes data transformation and upload (DATA-3769)
New pipelines ingest data on the number of extreme heat days, population projections, and human exposure to heat days.
Key Drivers Map Improvements (DATA-3741)
Multiple improvements were made to the Key Drivers Map, including:
Adding heat extremes to the base layer options
Adding a NO_DATA option for base layers
Adding a default_period_date parameter that sets the initial period date if available
Adding specific layer priority so lower admin levels are always shown on top
Adding autoplay to the time slider, to be implemented after updates to the IOM data
Updates
Handle Forgotten Passwords in FDE (DATA-2853)
Users can now change or reset their password within FDE.
Detect and report on failing cached response (DATA-3166)
Failing caches can be detected in FDW and removed to prevent the extra load being applied to Celery medium.
FDE Spatial Domain has_geography Implementation (DATA-3560)
FDE now identifies geographic units with spatial data in the Spatial domain. The map visualization will render only for geographic units containing spatial data, and the user is notified if they have selected one or more geographic units that do not contain spatial data.
Add seasonal activity data source document to the crop metadata endpoint (DATA-3725)
Now that FDW includes seasonal crop activity dates (such as the start and end of planting or harvest), the crop metadata endpoint will retrieve the data source document, indicating the external partner crop calendars used for these activity dates.
FIPE Filters Review (DATA-3781)
Several changes were made following a review of the Acute Food Insecure Population Estimates domain page in FDE, including:
Fixed a metadata error occurring on load
Removed the Scenario filter
Ensured
fields=simple
is used in the FIPE data callAdded a
preference=best
filter to FIPEAdded a datasource document filter to the FIPE domain page, as well as the FIC domain page
Removed the documents filter from the FIC domain page
Improvements to “FEWS NET Latest” widget in FDE and homepage layout (DATA-3792)
Updated the FDE home page to replace the Data Updates widget with the modified FEWS NET Latest widget.
Clear Previously Used Filters in FDE (DATA-3816)
A user’s most recent search criteria will no longer be retained when reloading the page, moving between domain pages, or between sessions in the FDE.
Bugs
Changes to Market names not reflecting in MarketProducts (DATA-3249)
Changes made to Zimbabwe market names in FDW were reflected in the Markets extract, but not when exporting the list of related MarketProducts. Changes in Market names are now reflected in the MarketProducts API exports.
Season Date and Year Broken (DATA-3798)
FDW was incorrectly calculating the season_date
and season_year
field for seasonal crop activity data. The cpcv2
code and crop_production_system
columns are now used to merge the data frames and correctly calculate the season_date
and season_year
in relation to the period_date
and start_date
fields.
FDE Bug Fixes
Bug fixes for the FEWS NET Data Explorer were completed through the following tickets:
Some users periodically encountered an error when trying to sign in to FDE using Google Single Sign-On, including when using multiple Google accounts on one device. Users will now be prompted to select the Google account to be used to log in to FDE during the sign in flow. (DATA-3664)
Updated the built in tour so the example filters and selections are reset and the user is brought back to the home page upon exiting the tour. (DATA-3727)
Selecting regions in Market filter of the Prices domain was not filtering data series correctly. Now, users can select a region to filter data. (DATA-3749)
The Metadata tab was not working correctly for multiple domains. The tab now loads and displays metadata as expected. (DATA-3813)
Users were not able to open data sets in the FDE, and were instead being directed to the home page. Data sets can now be opened as expected. (DATA-3846)
