The FIC IPC Acute Food Insecurity Classifications domain provides Food Insecurity Classification (FIC) data as an indicator to identify famine and determine the severity of food security and nutrition crises. This data is compatible with the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) system.
The FIC IPC Acute Food Insecurity Classifications domain is broken into three two sections: search and filter, data selection, data visualization and export.

Search and Filter
You can filter the available data series using one or more of the following criteria:
...
Period: Filters by the collection/reporting period.
Start date:
End date:
...
1. Filter Data
The Acute Food Insecurity Classifications domain includes the following options for filtering data:
Start date and End date:Filters Data Series by the period dates of all Data Points within the series. All Data Series with at least one Data Point that has a period date inside the date range will be displayed.
Geographic area: Filters by location of the FIC data. This filter aggregates items into a multi-level lists (e.g., admin Admin 1 units are aggregated into countries, which are aggregated into regions). Selecting the higher-level item in the list will automatically select all the lower-level items in the list.

You must select one or more geographic areas before choosing additional filters. |
Scale: Filers by the food security classification scale used...Scenario*: Filters by scenario (, e.g., Best case in 3 months, Current scenario, Most likely in 12 months, Worst case in 6 months).
*You can search using any of the above criteria marked with an asterisk. You can also search, but not filter, by:
Data Source Document:
Data Source Organization: The name or unique numeric id of the organization that provided the data source document.
Geographic unit name and code:
Scenario code:
Data Selection
Once you have applied your search terms and filters, you will be presented with a list of all available data series that match your criteria. A data series is a collection of related data points from a single data source that are viewable as a single row within a table of data. They represent the change over time of a specific indicator. Data series are presented in table format where each row represents a single data series.
The IPC FIC domain data selection table includes the following columns:
Country: The name of the country for which the FIC was determined.
Geographic unit: A geographic area or point such as a portion of a country or other region delineated for a specific purpose, such as an Administrative Unit (Province, District, County, etc.), Livelihood Zone, or Market.

Info: Hover over the information icon in a row to see more details including the data series ID and data source document.
Tip |
---|
To visualize and export data, you will need to select one or more data series by checking the box at the beginning of the row containing that series. |
In addition to selecting data series, you can interact with the data selection table in the following ways:
Selected data series can be viewed in the Selected tab.
You can clear your selections using the Clear Selected button.
By default the series are ordered alphabetically by country. You can click on the header of any column to sort by that column instead of by country.
Selecting one or more data series creates a savable dataset. For more information on creating and saving datasets, see Create and Save Datasets.
Data Visualization and Export
Options
Options within the IPC FIC domain allows for aggregation or conversion of the data. The available parameters are:
Reporting Schedule: Provides reporting options on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
Data Visualization
Table
The Table tab for the IPC FIC domain includes the following metadata:
source_organization: The name or unique numeric id of the organization that provided the data source document.
source_document: The document used as the primary source of information or data.
country: Represents the national, dependent territory, or special area of geographical interest level administrative unit, standardized to ISO 3166 naming.
country_code: The ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 two letter code for a country.
geographic_group: Grouping of countries or regions based on the United Nations Standard Country or Area Codes for Statistical (UN M49) Classifications.
fewsnet_region: Grouping of countries or regions based on the FEWS NET regional Classifications. They are similar to the UN M49 Groups but they use the M49 code values between 900 and 999.
geographic_unit_name: The name of a geographic unit. For example, Kayes, which is a geographic unit found in Mali.
fnid: FEWS NET ID, a unique code used to identify a specific geographic unit.
classification_scale:
scenario_name:
is_allowing_for_assistance:
start_date: The start date of a collection period. For monthly data, this is the first day of the month of the reporting period. For example, data from January 2021 have a start_date of January 1, 2021.
period_date: The last day of the collection period. For monthly data, this is the last day of the month of the reporting period. For example, data from January 2021 have a period date of January 31, 2021.
value: The value of the data point during the reporting period.
description: Any extra information or detail that is relevant to the object. In the case of a source document, it can contain more information about the datasource including the name of document in the native language of the country the source document belongs to.
scenario:
collection_date: Date the records were collected, specified in YYYY-MM-DD format.
collection_schedule: The frequency of the data collections (e.g., monthly or weekly).
collection_status: The status of a data collection (i.e., Draft, Submitted, Under Review or Published).
dataseries_name: The name of a data series derived from the full set of metadata added at the time of creation.
geographic_unit_full_name: The name of a geographic unit concatenated with the name of the country it belongs to. For example, Kayes, Mali, which is a geographic unit in Mali. For Units without countries, the full name might contain "International" in place of country.
status: The status of a data point value (i.e., Collected, Not Collected, Not Available, Missing Historic Data, Calculated, and Interpolated) for a specific collection period.

Data Export
The Export tab includes the following options:
Download asIntegrated Phase Classification (IPC) scale versions 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1.
Scenario: There are two scenario options available:

2. Data Visualization and Export
Visualize
The Acute Food Insecurity Classifications domain currently includes a Table visualization. The Metadata tab contains descriptions and definitions of the metadata included in the visualizations and export data.
Customize Export
The Acute Food Insecurity Classifications domain includes the following options:
File format: Choose from one of the available file formats. This will apply to both downloads and refreshable links.
Download: Provides a download of a static dataset. This will export only the data series that you have selected. Downloads are available in the following formats:
Flat format CSV
Refreshable
Copy link: Provides Copies a refreshable link to a live dataset. When a live dataset is accessed, the system automatically fetches the most current data from the server that match those saved parameters. Refreshable links are available in the following formats:
CSV
HTML
JSON
XML
that connects directly to the FEWS NET Data Warehouse database server, allowing Excel, your browser, or another application to automatically fetch data from the server whenever the link is accessed.
